Global tourism in deep crisis as the Middle Eastern war severely impacts holiday makers and Airlines who are now opting for destinations away from warzones.

Military Middle Eastern conflict has caused widespread fuel supply shortages, with flight cancellations and other travel disruptions worldwide as a domino effect. Travel plans are affected whether your destination is in the Middle East or not.

Middle Eastern war affects tens of thousands of bookings at a lightening pace: On April 2026, statistics from Lastminute speak for itself:

“war in the Middle East has impacted some 17,000 bookings, while holidaymakers are shifting towards alternative destinations like the Canary Islands and Sardinia.”

Lastminute.com is an online travel and leisure retailer.

The Bridge Magazine is aware Holidays are of paramount importance.

Not only because time away from work helps reset human brain, lower cortisol (the stress hormone), improve sleep, boost overall emotional well-being, but most importantly because: Researchers found that people who can afford to take at least seven vacations a year show significantly lower levels of stress, anxiety, and depression.

Whether to satisfy human curiosity, for documentary purposes, economic, medical breakthroughs (Exploring wildlife in search of cancer cure, anti-venom, antidotes…) , for rare earth minerals/treasure hunting , for sexual tourism, for statistical reasons or to spend quality time, wild life continuously attracts tourists worldwide.

From the roar of a feline to the mischiefs and curiosity of monkeys swinging from a branch tree to another, via the gallop of a zebra, the spectacular waterfall, the magnificent landscape of  colourful wildlife can offer a fairy-tale Mother Nature like enchanting scenery.

Although playing a huge role to the ecosystem, find below our top three seemingly tiny in stature and apparent harmless creatures but yet impressive for the amount of harm they can cause to human’s health/livelihood.

Humans always die because of something one may argue.

But knowing Mankind does not live forever does not mean willingly putting oneself or one’s family at risk.

It does not mean living a careless life multiplying risky behaviour/ life threatening experiences as if one was willing to walk blindfolded towards the abyss for a suicidal dive.

Humans may be mortal, but life is so delicate yet precious and we only have one material existence among the living, as oppose to a spiritual   life, and no one is responsible for your life but you.

For that reason, no one should be blamed for being wise enough, cautious enough to stay away from danger in a bid to preserve, to protect their life and that of their loved ones.

Planning for sea, sand, and sun resort for a peaceful break is good but being aware of the Dos and Don’ts regarding wild life, kill joy encounters that may permanently stop your heart beat is better.

Visitors to the Amazon are highly advised to be cautious and aware of their surroundings at all times during their visit to the jungle.

On a geographical, and cultural outlook.

Be mindful of people’s cultures.

Unlike what you may have been led to believe, many tribes and cultures from around the world have survived the clash of “modern civilisation”.

If you are deeply attracted to a foreign location, and decide to invest and explore the amazon rainforest for example, make sure you get advice from reliable local people such as the chief of a village, administrator of the village head…. Their approval is of paramount importance.

Many still believe in their Ancestors, their Blood line, their Lineage, their Spirit Animals, their protective spirit as in the guardian of the forest. Remember this has nothing to do with witchcraft it is people’s traditions, culture and beliefs: it is what makes them unique, different, what sets them apart from the rest of the world.

You cannot just waltz in evergreen places, with your phone on a tripod, your picnic setting tablecloth… some places are deemed sacred by ancients, villagers for specific reasons. For centuries, some people have continuously believed in specific plants, flowers, animals, Ancestors for being guardians of their forest and they have been believing in that for a millennium:

That is the reason why, once on foreign territories rather that downplaying places value/authenticity by questioning their level of modernity, or western civilisation it is wiser and safer to abide by their advice and rules.

1) CHIGOE FLEA

CHIGOE FLEA may be the world’ smallest flea, but it is responsible for- Tungiasis : causing thousands of limb amputations yearly.

CHIGOE FLEA (AKA Tunga penetrans, the jigger, jigger flea, nigua, chica, pico, cique, or suthi) is a parasite insect mostly found in tropical and subtropical climates.

Unlike other fleas which are ectoparasitic on the surface of the skin, the females remain embedded in the host tissue during engorgement and egg-production.

The species is native to Central and South America and is believed to have been introduced to sub-Saharan Africa. The chigoe flea lives 2–5 cm below sand.

Tungiasis is caused by the adult female sand flea, Tunga penetrans. The larvae and pupae develop in dry shaded soils.

According to The World Health Organisation (WHO):

“Over 1 billion people live in areas suitable for transmission of tungiasis but no country conducts routine surveillance so the actual disease burden is not known […]

The embedded flea induces inflammation associated with immense pain and itching. This disturbs sleep and concentration on school or work.

Patients with large numbers of embedded fleas have difficulty walking, often with loss of nails and disfigured and mutilated feet.

People with tungiasis experience stigma and social exclusion and a low quality of life. Children with tungiasis have cognitive impairment and lower school exam scores.

Impaired physical fitness of adult household members could have a negative impact on household economics.

Bacterial superinfection may cause life-threatening complications, such as septicaemia, tetanus or gangrene.”

Did you know?

According to (WHO), both animals and humans are susceptible to Tungiasis infection

  • Tungiasis is caused by adult female sand fleas, which mostly host into the skin of human’s feet.

  • Tungiasis can be associated with abscesses caused by secondary bacterial infections.

  • It occurs in remoted beaches/ areas, resource-poor populations in the tropics of the Caribbean, South America and sub-Saharan Africa.

People with disabilities, children aged 5 to 14 years old and the elderly are at highest risk of infection.

Infestation can occur in all parts of human body leaving bullous-type lesions ,fissures, ulcers, lymphangitis, lymphoedema, ascending neuritis, deformation and loss of nails with tissue necrosis as  chronic complications.

These result in pain, disability, disfigurement and mutilation of the feet, causing characteristic changes in the way people with tungiasis walk.

Transmission According to (WHO)

The main transmission site is unsealed earthen floor where the larvae and pupae develop.  Bacterial superinfection may cause life-threatening complications, such as septicaemia, tetanus or gangrene.

The regular application of a repellent based on coconut oil effectively prevents the fleas from penetrating the skin.

2) SANDFLY OR SAND FLY

Key facts from (WHO)

  • There are 3 main forms of leishmaniases: visceral (the most serious form because it is almost always fatal without treatment), cutaneous (the most common, usually causing skin ulcers), and mucocutaneous (affecting mouth, nose and throat).

  • Leishmaniasis is caused by protozoan parasites which are transmitted by the bite of infected female phlebotomine sandflies.

  • The disease affects some of the world’s poorest people, is associated with malnutrition, population displacement, poor housing, a weak immune system and lack of financial resources.

  • An estimated 700 000 to 1 million new cases occur annually.

Did you know?

Leishmaniasis is caused by a protozoa parasite from over 20 Leishmania species. Over 90 sandfly species are known to transmit Leishmania parasites. There are 3 main forms of the disease:

  • Visceral leishmaniasis (VL), also known as kala-azar, is fatal if left untreated in over 95% of cases. The host shows irregular symptoms of fever, weight loss, enlargement of the spleen and liver, and anaemia. Most cases occur in Brazil, east Africa and India. An estimated 50 000 to 90 000 new cases of VL occur worldwide annually, with only 25–45% reported to WHO. It has outbreak and mortality potential.

  • Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is the most common form and causes skin lesions, mainly ulcers, on exposed parts of the body. These can leave life-long scars and cause serious disability or stigma. About 95% of CL cases occur in the Americas, the Mediterranean basin, the Middle East and central Asia. It is estimated that 600 000 to 1 million new cases occur worldwide annually but only around 200 000 are reported to (WHO).

  • Mucocutaneous leishmaniasis leads to partial or total destruction of mucous membranes of the nose, mouth and throat. Over 90% of mucocutaneous leishmaniasis cases occur in Bolivia (the Plurinational State of), Brazil, Ethiopia and Peru.

  • People living with HIV and who are infected with leishmaniasis have high chances of developing the full-blown disease, high relapse and mortality rates.

Transmission.

Transmitted through the bites of infected female phlebotomine sandflies, which feed on blood to produce eggs. They are parasites feeding on more than 70 animal species, including humans.

Infection spreading rate by region worldwide

Cutaneous Leishmaniasis is highly endemic in Algeria whereas in west Africa the epidemiological information is scarce. In east Africa all forms are endemic with outbreaks of visceral leishmaniasis occurring frequently.

The Americas

Are home to numerous types of sandflies and Leishmania species with Brazil (The most biologically diverse country in the world) being the main endemic country for VL in that region.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis is the most complex and the main form of the epidemiology with several animals being the source of the parasite.

Eastern Mediterranean Region

According to (WHO): “This region accounts for 80% of the cutaneous leishmaniasis cases reported worldwide. Visceral leishmaniasis is highly endemic in Iraq, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.”

European Region

According to (WHO): Cutaneous and visceral leishmaniasis are endemic. Imported cases are common, coming mainly from Africa and the Americas.

South-East Asia Region

According to (WHO): Visceral leishmaniasis is the main form of the disease, which is also endemic for cutaneous leishmaniasis.

Major risk factors:

Socioeconomic conditions

Humans who sleep outside or on the ground, are highly at risk of contacting  leishmaniasis. Poor housing and domestic sanitary conditions (lack of waste management or open sewerage) may increase sandfly breeding and resting sites, as well as their access to humans. Sandflies are attracted to crowded housing because it is easier to bite people and feed on their blood.

Poor diet

Diets lacking protein-energy, iron, vitamin A and zinc increase the risk that an infection will progress to a full-blown disease.

Diagnosis and treatment

People suspected of suffering from visceral leishmaniasis should seek medical care immediately.

An immunocompetent system is urgent because medicines will not get rid of the parasite from the body, thus the risk of relapse if immunosuppression occurs.

3-BOX JELLYFISH

Our editorial understands the urge for some to swim the ocean for leisure purposes or for others (content creators for marketing, monetising purposes alike) to capture the moment whilst swimming the ocean to share their toned bikini body with their millions of followers.

But whatever the reason, DO NOT dive or go for a stroll on any beach unless you are fully aware that specific area is safe!

According to The National Geographic Travel Website regarding Box Jellyfish:

Their venom is considered to be among the deadliest in the world, containing toxins that attack the heart, nervous system, and skin cells. It is so overpoweringly painful, human victims have been known to go into shock and drown or die of heart failure before even reaching shore. Survivors can experience considerable pain for weeks and often have significant scarring where the tentacles made contact.”

According to (WHO):

The jellyfish is an invertebrate made of 98% water! This is what gives it its gelatinous appearance and makes it buoyant. Its umbrella-shaped body is therefore soft. To move, it closes its umbrella, which pushes the water away and moves it forward.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) acknowledges that:  Specifically, in the case of box jellyfish sting injuries…

“Injury has long been neglected by the global health agenda. Globally, an estimated 6 million lives are lost each year due to injury, with injuries contributing to more deaths than HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria combined […]

Poorer and less educated people are at greater risk of injury. These are populations with limited voices to advocate for better research and improved prevention efforts, and they often reside in communities and countries with limited resources, training, or infrastructure to allow these efforts to happen.”

The majority of studies reviewed were hospital-based and more than half were case studies on very specific topics, such as pelvic fractures and thoracic trauma.

Box jellyfish species are a Public Health Concern.

Box jellyfish species are predominantly found in tropical latitudes and are especially abundant across the Indo-Pacific, including certain coastal areas of Hawai‘i.

Many cubozoan species inflict life-threatening stings. Victims suffer from acutely necrotic injury and more often, from lethal cardiovascular collapse.

More than 40 box jellyfish species are known worldwide. Most of these lethal box jellyfish species are abundant in coastal Philippine waters.

Did you know?

Box jellyfish stings are common in coastal communities worldwide. More human lives have been lost from box jellyfish sting injuries than from shark attacks during the past 40 years.

Victims of serious box jellyfish stings may develop acute cardiovascular collapse, with death occurring within one hour.

Victims of serious box jellyfish stings may develop a complex, life-threatening sequelae, known as Irukandji syndrome, characterized by minutes- to hours-long delayed onset of chest and abdominal pain, hypertension followed by hypotension, and pulmonary oedema, with death occurring in 4–48 hours usually from cerebral haemorrhage.

Box jellyfish stings are excruciatingly painful and chirodropid stings leave highly recognizable scars.

Box jellyfish stings result in serious injury, including permanent disfigurement and death.

Children are potentially more susceptible to critical injury from box jellyfish than adults.

Hotspots for these lethal sting injuries is the Philippines, where it is estimated that thousands of serious stings and potentially hundreds of fatalities occur each year.

Box jellyfish sting incidents and fatalities are often considered “environmental accidents” and not reported in regional and provincial health records.

This issue is compounded by the speed at which death can occur especially in the absence of any effective first aid.

In many cases either means of transport to an acute care facility are lacking, or victims often die before reaching a health facility, and while local community members grieve the fatality, the event is not officially reported or recorded in searchable records.

Despite the Middle eastern conflict and the Global economic crisis, feel free to travel if you can afford to do so.

    Dear ALL,

From the roar of a feline to the mischiefs and curiosity of monkeys swinging from a branch tree to another, via the gallop of a zebra, the spectacular waterfall, the magnificent landscape of colourful wildlife can offer a fairy-tale Mother Nature like enchanting scenery.

Beneath the striking beauty of the evergreen amazon rainforest, its deep blue sea, golden sand and beautiful beaches, the cackle of guinea fowl, birds tweeting, lie some of human’s most vile enemies.

Be mindful of people’s cultures. Unlike what you may have been led to believe, many tribes and cultures from around the world have survived the clash of “modern civilisation”.

    Kind Regards,

    Dear ALL,

If you are deeply attracted to a foreign location, and decide to invest and explore amazon rainforest make sure you get advice from reliable local people such as the chief of a village, administrator of the village head…. Their approval is of paramount importance.

Many still believe in their Ancestors, their Blood line, their Lineage, their Spirit Animals, their protective spirit as in the guardian of the forest. Remember this has nothing to do with witchcraft it is people’s traditions, culture and beliefs: it is what make them unique, different, what sets them apart from the rest of the world.

You cannot just waltz in evergreen places, with your phone on a tripod, your picnic setting tablecloth… some places are deemed sacred by ancients, villagers for specific reasons.

For centuries, some people have continuously believed in specific plants, flowers, animals, Ancestors for being guardians of their forest and they have been believing in that for a millennium: that is the reason why, once on foreign territories rather that downplaying places value/authenticity by questioning their level of modernity, or western civilisation it is wiser and safer to abide by their advice and rules.

As you plan to head to biodiverse hotspots:

    BE MINDFUL!!!

Be mindful of inhabitants of the wildlife, humans with their cultures and beliefs, animals with their usefulness and the equilibrium they provide to our planet.

The Bridge Magazine wishes you a safe and pleasant break.

    Kind Regards,

The Bridge MAG. 🌍 🗞️ Appreciation

This season, as a sign of gratitude, below are few readers’ comments worldwide. picked at random from the dashboard
From Tibet to Australia, via America to Brazil/Venezuela … thank you once again for commenting on my articles and for being part of my success.

“I have been surfing online more than three hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It’s pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the net will be much more useful than ever before.”

“I was struck by your recent piece on trade, tariffs, and the hidden costs of human trafficking. You bring forward voices and truths that many would rather turn away from — and that makes your work both vital and lasting.
I’m building something…— in a way that outlives the news cycle…— it’s about real voices being remembered.

Your work already embodies that spirit. If it resonates, I’d love to record a short session with you — a conversation that captures your perspective for the archive, alongside the journalism you’re already doing. We’re early in this project, so there’s no pressure and no fee barriers.
Would you be open to exploring that with me?
    Warmly”

“Your blog is a treasure chest of wisdom. Regards”

“What an incredible read! Your insightful analysis and thorough research have created a truly compelling article. I am thoroughly impressed by the depth and breadth of your expertise. This is exactly the kind of high-quality content that keeps me coming back for more. Sincerely”

“This article is absolutely phenomenal. The depth of your research and the clarity of your writing are impressive. You’ve managed to convey complex information in a clear and engaging way. I’m thoroughly impressed by this standout piece. Best wishes”
“Your content is always exceptional. This article was particularly enlightening. Brilliant post! Your writing is very impactful. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
    Best wishes”
