Our editorial covers true crime: in a time of a global recession, uncertainty becomes the norm as human trafficking has become a common practice.
Some compagnies and or individuals are turning to human trafficking in order to launder crime money and save either their businesses from liquidation or personal fortune from collapsing.
INTERPOL has been closely observing a growing crime phenomenon: large-scale human trafficking where victims are lured through fake job ads.
The crime trend, which has seen: “Tens of thousands trafficked in Southeast Asia and many more around the world”, has sounded the alarm.
INTERPOL published a recent report stating the Federal police in “Brazil took down a trafficking ring that recruited victims through fake job ads, then trafficked them to Myanmar for sexual exploitation”.

Unite Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD) said in its latest report on March 2025 that:
“Trade policy uncertainty soars to historic highs, trade tensions are escalating, dragging global economy towards recession […]
Record-high economic policy uncertainty is also fuelling financial turbulence.
In early 2025, the Economic Policy Uncertainty Index reached its highest level this century surpassing peaks during the 2008 financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Global growth is forecast to slow to 2.3% in 2025, slipping below the 2.5% threshold often associated with a global recession.”

The rise of human trafficking has sky rocketed as US Tariffs have opened the floodgates to job insecurity thus triggering criminal activities such as drug dealing, organs harvesting,
sex trafficking as criminals are willing to exploit economic deficits and regulatory loopholes around the world.
As the global recession and US tariffs have been a catalyst for unemployment, the most common means through which vulnerable people become victims of trafficking is deception, by fake promises of employment.
Traffickers continuously use job hunting as one of their tactics to lure victims who are looking for a job.
People have gone to job interviews and have turned up missing as the job scarcity has created an influx opportunity for traffickers to create fake employment websites to lure their victims.

Everyone is at risk of being trafficked! No one is safe.
However mostly: jobseekers, new recruits, new graduates, parents desperate to have a job to bring food on the table for their families are more at risk.

Human traffickers are employed in a range of professions, including law enforcement, medicine, law and hospitality. Their professional backgrounds strengthen their capacity to generate trust and credibility from their victims.”

From his real name :
Theodore Robert Bundy Cowell (Born 24 November 1946- Died 24 Janvier 1989) was one of the most notorious Professional Serial Killers in American history.
In November 1972/April 1973 he worked at the Seattle Crime Prevention Advisory Commission.
He helped draft the state’s new hitchhiking law and wrote a rape‐prevention pamphlet for women.
Ted Bundy’s chosen field of study came in well-designed when targeting women. And his white- collar persona fooled the authorities and his victims.
Ted Bundy brutally raped and murdered in cold blood more than 80 women and girls in the 1970s.
But because he was a graduate who was studying law, he initially escaped intense official scrutiny because he could not fit into people’s preconceived ideas of a serial killer.

To jobseekers, whether newly or former graduates, adults or parents.
Make sure the job offers or the company is not just a showcase or shell company used by criminals to launder money.
Check company information online for free from Companies House or Sirene.fr database:
it allows you to learn more about the company information, including their registered office address, filing history, accounts, annual return, officers, charges…
It enables you to check the history of a company name among existing companies’ names, trade names or trademarks to assess and know if the company exist in real life.

If you reach the interview stage, DO NOT attend your interview on your own.
A family close friend, a sibling or a family member should be few minutes away or at least aware where you are up to.
If you are a new recruit, our editorial understands that at a time when the world is going through a deep global economic reset,
the youth or anyone could be tempted to go the extra mile to secure a permanent role.
Remember, if you ONLY have one day in a verified and or successful firm or company, make it count. Give it your best shot.
Be professionally grounded, do your job properly, learn from the professionals and from those with extensive experience: it will help build a rich and solid work experience.
If it is for a few weeks or months, be consistent and proactive with your work and the company work ethics.
BUT DO NOT Get creative to secure a permanent role by all means or at any cost:
DO NOT be a snitch: do not overhear conversations or stories one colleague says to the other, about a mutual colleague behind their back or your Bosses’ back and report back to them or to the Boss to make friends in your company and or to secure a permanent role.

Remember Ted Bundy!!! Believed to be the most prolific mass murderer in American history- the landmark case that shook America.

As a new recruit, or trainee, you are the outsider. And you will be judged if you think you can manipulate your colleague to succeed in life.
Companies are VERY POWERFUL ENTITIES if they are devious companies and are looking for a professional spy, they have the funds for that.
DO NOT Sell out your parents or family members to be praised by your Bosses or colleague: do not pull the trigger on your own ankle.
If you do, your days might be numbered and time of death ticking. If it is a dodgy company, they will understand you have no family values, nothing left, no one to report back to if you are missing.
DO NOT Flirt or sleep around to secure a permanent role or to climb the career ladder.

Experts say there is a growing crime phenomenon: large-scale human trafficking where victims are lured through fake job ads.
For The Bridge Magazine metaphorically, fake job adverts, offers, showcase or shell companies used by criminals to launder money imagery, could be seen as what William Shakespeare described in Macbeth as looking ‘like the innocent flower but be the serpent under it’.
But the question that burns is what makes some jobseekers miss out the scam and or the malpractice? Promises of good salaries, freebies, could be one explanation. Too often new graduates desperate to make great impression by landing their first employment, desperate single parents, insecure, the ones facing rejection, hunger, poverty , homelessness are lured in by “charismatic employers” promising to solve their life problems…
Ask yourself:
If you didn’t sleep around to earn all your degrees, qualifications or special skills, why would you do that to secure a permanent role or to climb the career ladder?
Before you think you are too special, companies have seen it all.
If you are a gifted neurosurgeon, the way you handle a scalpel the first second in a theatre room says it all about your professional skills of gifts.
Companies are VERY POWERFUL ENTITIES if they are looking for sex workers, luxury women of leisure, kinky sex or underage sexual tourism, they have the funds for that if it is what they are after.
As some compagnies do, but luckily not all of them.
There are millions of unsolved cases of sexual abuse and
trafficking of underage children by powerful people worldwide according to Statistics.

A Global Report on Trafficking in Persons launched today by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) provides new information on a crime that shames humanity as whole:
According to the Report, “The most common form of human trafficking (79%) is sexual…Worldwide, almost 20% of all trafficking victims are children.”
On its New report UNICEF estimates that : “More than 370 million girls and women alive today – or 1 in 8 – experienced rape or sexual assault before the age of 18”.
Remember! Romance gone wrong is one of the top two means to an end used by human traffickers.
When you are out there for job hunting, before you act in a frivolous manner, before you embarrass yourself, your parents (who have worked so hard to make you succeed in life), your family and even your bloodline, think again.
What may look like a flirt with a Boss or a Manager could be a perfect trap to human trafficking and or a company’s way of claiming your life insurance.
A horse tranquiliser used in a human body during a flirtatious encounter is enough to make someone enter a deep sleep and get trafficked.
Do your job to the best of your abilities. Companies are VERY POWERFUL ENTITIES if they are devious and are looking for a professional sniper, they have the funding for that too, like some compagnies (luckily not all of them) do.

“The many ways companies profit from hastening employees’ deaths.”
Published by FORTUNE, it reads:
“Hundreds of companies have taken out life insurance policies that will pay them tens of billions of dollars when their employees die. Bank of America stands to make $20 billion alone from the demise of its workers.
And the really creepy thing: The policies tend to be whole life, and companies hang onto them long after their employees stop working for them. That means Bank of America (BAC) and others stand to collect money not just from the death of their current employees, but from their ex-staffers as well.”
So as a new recruit signing a permanent contract or a parent helping your children to land permanent jobs in companies, make sure you help your children read and understand their contract in between the lines as some companies have subtly and swiftly put a price on their head.
Sometimes one may think they hit the jackpot by landing their dream permanent job when they are the jackpot. As companies have swiftly put a price on their head.

“I was struck by your recent piece on trade, tariffs, and the hidden costs of human trafficking. You bring forward voices and truths that many would rather turn away from — and that makes your work both vital and lasting.
I’m building something…—
in a way that outlives the news cycle…— it’s about real voices being remembered.
Your work already embodies that spirit. If it resonates, I’d love to record a short session with you — a conversation that captures your perspective for the archive, alongside the journalism you’re already doing. We’re early in this project, so there’s no pressure and no fee barriers.
Would you be open to exploring that with me?
Warmly “
