Don’t Drink the Water! Water is life: all your health, youth, wellbeing and lifespan in one drop. World pollution levels, increasing water scarcity, climate change, as well as population growth, are to make a drinkable water supply even more challenging for decades to come.

The world’s rivers, reservoirs, lakes and seas are drowning in chemicals, waste, plastic.

Poor management of urban, industrial, agricultural wastewater and sewage implies that drinkable water for hundreds of millions of people is dangerously contaminated or chemically polluted.

The World Health Organisation’s (WHO) latest statistics are beyond belief:

‘By 2025, half of the world’s population will be living in water-stressed areas. In least developed countries, 22% of health care facilities have no water service, 21% no sanitation service, and 22% no waste management service.’

Water Pollution and its causes

Best known as a ‘universal solvent’, water dissolves more substances than any other liquid on earth.  This is the reason why water is so easily polluted by toxic substances from farms, towns or factories.

Water pollution also originated from wastewater, discharged illegally by manufacturers, oil refineries, and treatment facilities, as well as contamination from leaking septic systems, chemical from oil spills and illegal dumping.

Water and health

Safe and available water is crucial for beverage, public health, domestic production and economic growth. From a global point of view, guaranteeing access for everyone to drinkable water should be perceived as being in the enlightened self-interest of humankind generally.

According to WHO

In health care facilities both patients and staff are placed at additional risk of infection and disease when water, sanitation, and hygiene services are lacking:

‘Globally, 15% of patients develop an infection during a hospital stay, with the proportion much greater in low income countries.’

Water is fundamental to life: everyone deserves clean water.

The health benefits of drinking water are undeniable…
