Humans are inherently social beings:  for that reason alone, anyone trying to live an isolated life on their own in a secluded island is deemed to perish.

Celebrations add a voice to humanity, create opportunities for mourning, remembrance, amusement, entertainment, fun and recreation.

This enables to alleviate anxiety, stress, tensions, and many factors that may negatively affect morale, participation, engagement and steal away humans’ “joie de vivre”.

Our editorial is aware that a lack of genuine celebration strips humanity of its natural dopamine.

Facts about Halloween are a killjoy: A North-eastern University Professor claims that: “violent crimes increase by as much as 50% on Halloween, which is two times the daily average.”

Halloween is one of the most common times of the year for crime according to statistics:

“The deadliest day of the year for child pedestrians is believed to be Halloween.  The risk of pedestrian fatalities is 43% higher on Halloween compared to any other night.

Property crime is the most common crime on Halloween, with 60% of property crimes involving theft […] Of the number of car accident fatalities on Halloween night, 40% are due to drinking and driving according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.”

As indicated by research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) that sifted through 42 years of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Sadly, a common crime on Halloween remains kidnapping.

Safe Kids WORDLWIDE on their report entitled: “Halloween Safety: A National Survey of Parents’ Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behaviors” published:

“Perceptions of Risk Findings Parents’ Halloween-related fears are widespread, with nearly four in five (77%) expressing one or more specific concerns.  These concerns include being hit by a car or truck (31%), poisoning from tampered or spoiled treats (24%), abductions (15%), falls (4%), burns (1%), broken bones (1%), or other fears.”

With children out and some unsupervised, the risk of a kidnapping is higher. Parents need to keep an eye on their children and teach children not to speak to strangers.

As humans, we do not choose our birth and yet we are certain to die and certain that death is irreversible:  hence our frustration, despair and disarray.

Being aware one will die does not mean they should expose themselves to fatal accidents or crimes.

Mankind was prompt to claim their powerfulness, their intelligence and to explain how the breakthrough of human evolution has rated us at the top of the success chain compared to animals and other beings.

Simultaneously we ‘homo sapiens’ feel triggered, ridiculous and mocked at for not being able to choose our birth or to prevent our death.

Our extreme intellectual faculties seem to simultaneously inform us both that we are eternal when we are alive and that we are not as death is forever.

The existential and non-existential enigma of humans, creates in mankind a deep emptiness and by ricochet, a sense of loss and severe anxiety.

Unable to find answers   concerning the mystery of life and death, this has urged some to adhere to something they can hang on to and give a sense to their life with a   hope that after their bereavement, their soul could be redeemed in their afterlife depending on their good or bad deeds.

This is where, religions, cults, sects and beliefs come into place. Some believe in God, in their Ancestors’ skulls, in their Blood Lines, in the Benevolent Universe, in Allah, Buddha, Jehovah…

And others believe in wealth, money, witch doctors, science, voodoo, rocks, crystals, tarot cards, spirits, witchcraft, the wind, fire, water, to earth, astrology, palm reading … or to believe in anarchy or nothing at all.

Dostoevsky once said:

“if God did not exist everything is permissible.”

Did he mean EVERYTHING?  If so, the anarchists or the spiteful who claim they do not need to live righteously and do good deeds will find refuge under the pretence of the non-existence of a deity and give themselves the ‘rights’ to rape, enslave and kill others.

The mean-spirited will rig the game of life by deliberately living immorally: for instance:  by accumulating blood fortune in order to afford powerful and corrupt lawyers and media, ready to legalise all their wrongdoings.

Halloween (every October 31st is a recently imported Anglo-Saxon holiday.)

All Saints’ Day (every November 1st, celebrates the saints)

All Souls’ Day (every November 2nd, commemorates the deceased).

What is Halloween?

There are many versions to the origins of ‘Halloween’. Most scholars believe that All Hallows’ Eve was originally influenced by Western European harvest festivals of the dead, which have their roots in paganism.

However, the most common theory is that Halloween was a festival thought to have originated with the Druids: A Celtic culture celebrated annually every October 31st to honour the dead.

Celts believed that not all souls were friendly: they left gifts and treats hoping to appease the evil souls, so that they could hope for a good crop for the coming year.

Dostoevsky once said “if God did not exist everything is permissible.”Did he mean EVERYTHING? Death exists to give a sense, a value to its opposite:  life. The first question when we lose a loved one is why?

Death exists so we as humans can question and reflect on our existence via our journey on earth.

To accept death, mankind must have a belief that death is their destiny, a natural part of life and something which is out of their control

If some people struggle with grief more than others it often occurs when the death was sudden, unexpected, or traumatic. It is also common when the deceased person was young, because the surviving loved ones feel a sense of injustice.

Natural law or Natural justice has its own way to restore order: death comes into play as the ultimate equilibrium. A divine, universal or natural reminder that we are all equal as humans. If we apply ethics and morals to humanity’s progress, we will tend to perfection as in a pure and fulfilled life…

To accept death, mankind must have a belief that death is their destiny, a natural part of life and something which is out of their control. We understand the urge for mankind to go to the moon, to invent Artificial Intelligence (AI) or to discover other planets for some, to multiply science fiction movies or to visit Tarot card readings to read the future through magic… But death is there to remind us how vulnerable we all are as humans. It is believed there is an unwritten rule, a natural law that people who have more good than evil in them live forever.

Even after life the collective remembrance and aura of all the good they have done to people during their lifetime keeps the flame of their beautiful soul alive and in peace. Their soul does not wander.

Below are few tips to stay at bay of fatal accidents and crimes on Halloween Day:

Death may also occur from human negligence as one gets carried away by a frenzy: great excitement, wild behaviour that often results from losing control of one’s feelings.

Whether you are children, carrying your bags of candy as you go from doorstep to doorstep looking for more treats be careful at which door you knock at even if you are accompanied by your elder siblings.

An adult MUST always accompany children.

Parents should never let their children carve a pumpkin unsupervised.

You must not hand out homemade or unwrapped candies to children.

Respect the neighbourhood: kindly share flyers/posters to your close neighbours so when you go mad with scream, dance and song, they do not think you are being disrespectful.

People may not get drunk or overexcited and instead, mistakenly place lit pumpkins too close to fabrics.

Using open flame candles in jack-o’-lanterns is not safe

Remember to place anything that may burn far away from your yard, your doorsteps, walkways.

If you choose to use candle decorations, make sure to keep them well attended at all times. Remember to keep exits clear of decorations, so nothing blocks escape routes.

DO NOT

It seems as though the Benevolent Universe is whispering to human ears that maybe, we as humans- if we cure the greed and evil in us, we could perhaps unlock the secret of life!Whatever you are up to this Halloween, this All Saints’ Day or All Souls’ Day, whether it be as a singleton, with a boyfriend, a girl friend, a fiancé, a spouse, with friends, colleagues or a family gathering, The Bridge Magazine wishes you a safe ride. Let your children talk to strangers. Keep your Halloween trick-or-treating, designated area in a familiar neighbourhood.

Do not update your location on social media until you are back from a Halloween night out or party: you and your family become prime targets as you have advertised to criminals that your house is empty.

Close your doors and windows if you celebrate indoors in case you get drunk and forget to close them.

“I was struck by your recent piece on trade, tariffs, and the hidden costs of human trafficking. You bring forward voices and truths that many would rather turn away from — and that makes your work both vital and lasting.
    I’m building something…—

in a way that outlives the news cycle…— it’s about real voices being remembered.

Your work already embodies that spirit. If it resonates, I’d love to record a short session with you — a conversation that captures your perspective for the archive, alongside the journalism you’re already doing. We’re early in this project, so there’s no pressure and no fee barriers.

Would you be open to exploring that with me?

    Warmly”
